Helping Hearts Feel Safe, Steady and In Control… with a Little Help from Paws
Big emotions aren’t bad. But when they start to feel too big… or come too fast… it can leave children, teens and adults feeling out of control, ashamed or simply overwhelmed.
Emotional regulation is the ability to recognise, understand and manage your emotions in a way that’s healthy and helpful.
This skill is especially important for:
🐾 Teens overwhelmed by stress, sadness or peer pressure
🐾 Adults navigating anxiety, burnout or emotional shutdown
In our canine-assisted learning sessions, we support emotional regulation by:
✨ Using movement, mindfulness and rhythm to create calm
✨ Practising pause-and-respond strategies
✨ Creating a safe emotional container… without judgement or pressure
When words are hard, when emotions feel too much and when traditional approaches don’t click… dogs often succeed where others can’t.
✅ Providing comfort and non-verbal connection
✅ Supporting emotional safety and trust
✅ Helping individuals stay grounded during strong emotions
🐾 1:1 or small group sessions
🐾 Sensory-friendly, neurodivergent-affirming
🐾 Activities designed for movement, mindfulness and expression
🐾 No lectures… just play, presence and progress
The ability to manage emotions underpins everything:
✔ Fewer outbursts and meltdowns
✔ More confidence and communication
✔ Greater independence and resilience
