Sensory Regulation & Overstimulation Support

Creating Calm for Busy Minds and Sensitive Systems… One Paw at a Time

Some people feel the world more deeply. Sounds are louder. Lights are brighter. Emotions are stronger. And when it all becomes too much, the result can be sensory overwhelm or a functional freeze… a complete shutdown of the body and brain.

At Paws 4 Change, we offer gentle, non-clinical sensory regulation and overstimulation support for children, teens and adults who feel overwhelmed by their environment or emotions. With the grounding presence of our emotional support dogs, we create a safe space to slow down, feel safe and learn calming strategies that actually work.

Who We Help

Our programs are designed for:

🐾 Neurodivergent individuals (ADHD, autism, sensory processing disorder)

🐾 Children who experience meltdowns, shutdowns or behavioural escalation

🐾 Teens who struggle with busy classrooms, noise or emotional overload

🐾 Adults navigating sensory sensitivity, burnout or chronic stress

🐾 NDIS participants working on self-regulation or daily living goals

Whether someone is constantly “on edge” or completely shut down, we help bring the nervous system back into balance… kindly and gently.

What Is Sensory Regulation?

Sensory regulation is the ability to manage and respond to incoming sensory information… like sounds, lights, textures, smells, emotions or touch… without becoming overwhelmed.

When sensory input becomes too intense or constant, it can lead to:

😣 Meltdowns or explosive outbursts

😶 Emotional shutdown or dissociation

😢 Anxiety, panic or withdrawal

⚡️ Hyperactivity or sensory-seeking behaviours

🧠 Fatigue, brain fog and burnout

Our sessions are designed to help people recognise their sensory needs, understand their triggers and build personalised strategies to create a sense of calm and control.

Why Dogs Make It Easier

Our four-legged friends are quiet, non-verbal co-regulators. They provide consistent comfort, sensory grounding and emotional presence… without pressure or expectations.

Dogs help participants:

✅ Stay regulated during challenging moments

✅ Feel safer in unfamiliar or busy environments

✅ Increase body awareness and emotional literacy

✅ Access nervous system calm through connection and touch

✅ Practise gentle, rhythmic interaction (stroking, breathing, stillness)

Sometimes, simply lying next to a dog can help a dysregulated body return to calm faster than any words could.

What to Expect

🐾 1:1 or small group sessions tailored to individual needs

🐾 Sensory-friendly, low-demand environments

🐾 Playful, body-based activities to explore calming tools

🐾 Emphasis on co-regulation, not control

🐾 Tools that are practical, gentle and actually usable in real life

Each session is paced to the individual’s tolerance… never rushed, never forced. Our goal is to help people feel safe in their own bodies again.
